Specimen SS170

This is an outstanding specimen of an extremely unusual fossil fish. It is a HUGE Peipiaosteus sp. from the ''Feathered Dinosaur'' site of China. When first discovered, this type was thought to be a fossil shark, but further research found it to be a fossil sturgeon. Either way, it is quite unusual. This monstrous fish is well preserved in lateral view, and the detail of the fish is just exquisite. The fins of the fish is easily seen, and the distinct tail is amazingly well defined. Even the skin of the fish is intact, and some of the internal organs are evident, which is extremely rare. The fossil has wonderful natural color and is beautifully showcased on the large plate of matrix. There is even a fossilized branch on the plate, which makes this specimen even more collectible. This is a HUGE, one-of-a-kind example of this unique Cretaceous sturgeon from China.
