This is a fantastic crinoid from the Upper Burlington Formation of Missouri. It is a huge Dorycrinus cornigerus, one of the most highly collectible crinoids to be found in the Upper Burlington Formation. This particular crinoid is very rare, and to find one that is this displayable is extremely rare. This type of crinoid has five long spines radiating from the tegmen which may have been used for defensive purposes. Four of these spines are beautifully displayed, having been prepared in a free-standing manner. These long spines are quite formidible, to say the least. The 3-dimensional, white crinoid contrasts beautifully with the orangish-brown matrix that is almost a coquina of crinoid fragments. This is a gorgeous specimen of this very unusual spiny crinoid from the Missouri.
