Specimen SS182

This is a fabulous example of a rare fossil. It is a museum quality Stingray specimen from Lincoln County, Wyoming. This is a male Heliobatis sp., the renowned "Fat-Tailed" ray, one of the most sought-after fossils found in the Green River Formation. This is not the more common Heliobatis radians - this ray is over ten times rarer than the standard H. radians! The Ray has great color, which contrasts beautifully with the buff-colored matrix. The fossil has excellent detail - the barbs along the tail and the three long ''stingers'' are even intact and well preserved! This male specimen is also quite unusual in that it still has its mating graspers preserved. And the entire backbone is intact and quite 3-dimensional. This distinct Ray is wonderfully showcased on the rectangular matrix plate. This is a striking example of this extremely rare stingray fossil that can not only be part of a fossil collection, but also proudly displayed in your home or office.
