Rare Horseshoe Crab with Death Trail Preserved

This is a unique, museum quality arthropod fossil. It is a beautiful Mesolimulus walchi Horseshoe Crab fossil from the Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. This specimen was acquired from a major German Collection. The unique feature of this fossil is that not only is there a complete horseshoe crab preserved, but also his last footsteps! As you can see, the crab walked on the sea floor bottom, and left a trackway as it walked. It then stopped abruptly, dug its telson (tail) in the mud, and died in place, leaving a record of its last stroll etched in time. The quality of the crab is excellent - all of its features are beautifully preserved, especially the LONG telson. But the intact trackway makes this an extremely rare, one-of-a-kind fossil. This is an extremely collectible Solnhofen arthropod that has a distinct "Death Trail" preserved.
