This is a very interesting fossil. It is a large Carcharocles megalodon tooth that has been composited on a piece of matrix that is mostly plates from a large sea urchin. This extinct giant white shark tooth has a very solid and substantial root. The sharp serrations of the tooth are beautifully displayed, and the shiny enamel of the tooth is extremely well preserved. This is a very displayable Carcharocles megalodon tooth from the Miocene of Maryland.
