This is an excellent specimen of Homarus hakelensis from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, fossils from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This lobster is well preserved and exhibits great detail. The head, segmented body, and tail of the crustacean are clearly defined. The long pincers are beautifully displayed, and even the eyes of the beast can be seen. The fossil has been darkened for contrast (typical of this site) and is wonderfully centered on the squared plate of sublithographic limestone. This is an extremely displayable example of this unusual crustacean from the Middle East.
