Here is a very displayable plate of fossil leaves. These are Fraxinus sp. (Ash) from the Green River Formation. Ash leaves are very uncommon from this stratigraphic unit. There are two leaves on the plate and both are still unusually attached to the main branch. These elliptical leaves are quite large and display entire margins. The primary venation is clearly defined and, under magnification, even the tertiary venation is evident. The natural, brown color of the fossil plant contrasts extremely well with the light-colored matrix. The leaves are wonderfully positioned on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very aesthetic specimen of unusual Ash leaves from the Eocene of Utah.
