Here is an unusual arthropod. This is a fine specimen of Branchiocaris, a phyllocarid. Phyllocarids are among the lesser known crustaceans. They are distinguished by a rather large carapace, hinged at the top, which sheltered the anterior part of the body. This specimen displays the carapace very nicely. It has great natural color and contrasts wonderfully with the matrix. This is a fine example of this strange arthropod from the Middle Cambrian trilobite beds of Utah.
