This is a rare Ice Age fossil. It is a large Equus lenaicus (True Horse) maxilla from the famous Mammoth site in Siberia. This type of horse originated in North America during the Pliocene, but became extinct in North America during the Pleistocene. It survived through the Ice Age in Europe and Siberia, where this specimen was found. This maxilla is from the upper left side of the skull. It has the complete battery of teeth (molars) fully intact. The teeth have a wonderful natural wear pattern. The bone is well preserved and has a beautiful red-brown patina. This is a very unusual fossil from an extinct species of True Horse.
