Here is a very pretty fossil leaf. This is Zelkova nervosa (Keaki Tree) from the Eocene of Colorado. The lanceolate leaf exhibits very fine detail. The dentate margins are beautifully displayed and the venation of the plant is quite distinct. A short, complete petiole is still attached to the leaf. The fossil has excellent color and contrast. It is almost perfectly centered on the natural plate of matrix. This is a very aesthetic example of Zelkova nervosa from Colorado.
