Here is a very unusual leaf. This is Sassafras sp. from the Eocene of Canada. This beautiful tri-lobed leaf exhibits fine detail. The venation of the leaf is nicely displayed. A long, curved petiole is attached to the leaf. The orangish colored fossil contrasts nicely with the tannish matrix. It is well centered on the plate of shale. This is a nice example of an uncommon sassafras leaf.
