This is a very nice specimen of Carpopenaeus septemspinatus, a large shrimp from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. This species should not be confused with the more common Carpopenaeus callirostris. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. Although there has been some enhancement (typical of this locality), the shrimp is complete and exhibits fine detail. The segmented carapace, the long legs, and even the eyes are present. The long, slender antennae are nicely displayed. The dark brown color of the shrimp contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. The crustacean is well presented on the semi-rectangular plate of sublithographic limestone. There are also two complete baby fish on the reverse side of the plate. This is a large, beautiful specimen of a fossil shrimp from Lebanon.
