Here is a wonderful vertebrate fossil. This is a jaw of Caprax sp., a deer, from the Pleistocene. This specimen was found associated with cave bear remains in a cave in Romania. Deer remains are much more scarce than cave bear fossils from these caves. Five teeth are present and firmly embedded in the jaw. The teeth have great enamel and the cusps of the teeth are beautifully displayed. The light-colored teeth contrast well with the yellowish jawbone. This is a superb display specimen of a rare Ice Age deer jaw from the caves of Romania.
