This is a very nice plate with two fossil shrimp. These are Carpopenaeus callirostris from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. These shrimp are well preserved and exhibit fine detail. The heads, segmented carapaces, tails, and legs of the arthropods are clearly defined. Even the long antennae are quite evident. The fossils have been darkened for contrast (typical of this site). The shrimp are beautifully posed on the rectangular plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a very attractive specimen of Cretaceous crustaceans from the Middle East.
