This is an extremely rare fossil leaf from the Eocene of Utah. This is a great specimen of Lindera varifolia. The leaf exhibits very fine entire margins. The venation of the leaf is superb. This unusual leaf has a short petiole attached. The Lindera has great, naturally dark, color and superb contrast with the light-colored matrix. The leaf is almost perfectly centered on the natural block of shale. In addition to the rare leaf, there are three mosquitoes, one beetle, and one feather on this matrix plate. The fossil feather and mosquitoes exhibit great detail. This is a very interesting association plate of fossils from the Green River Shale.
