Here is an excellent fossil fish from the Eocene. This is Knightia humilis from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This fish exhibits wonderful detail. The bone structure is well preserved and the fins are easily seen. Even the scale pattern of the fish is quite evident. The dark brown fish contrasts nicely with the light tan matrix. The fish is beautifully centered on the somewhat oval plate of shale. This is a very fine example of a fossil herring from the Fossil Lake Deposits of Wyoming.
