This is a very pretty brachiopod specimen. There are two examples of Paraspirifer bownockeri on this plate from the Devonian of Ohio. Both brachiopods have both valves intact and tightly articulated. The fossil ''lampshells'' are EXTREMELY inflated and exhibit fine detail. The coarse radial ornamentation is easily seen. The brachiopods have great color with flashes of golden iron pyrite. They are well presented on the plate of matrix. This is an attractive specimen of large brachiopods from the famous Silica Shale.
