Here is an interesting fossil fish from the Eocene. This is Phareodus testis from the Eocene of Wyoming. This type of fish has a very wide body and two large fins near the tail. This specimen is complete and has good bone structure. The large fins are nicely displayed and some of the small, pointed teeth are visible in the mouth of the fish. The orangish-brown fish contrasts nicely with the multi-colored matrix. The fossil is well positioned on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a good example of this predatory fish from the Eocene.
