This is an excellent fossil fish. It is a large Knightia from Lincoln County, Wyoming. This fossil was found in the "18 Inch Layer", a layer where the fossils have great detail. They need to be extracted under a microscope to reveal all the detail. The backbone and other bones are easily seen. The fossils in this layer also have great dark color, which contrasts beautifully with the lighter shale matrix. This fish is well centered on the squared plate of matrix. This is a well-prepared fossil fish from the "18 Inch Layer".
