Here is a very unusual fossil insect preserved in shale. This is a Moth (Lepidoptera) from the Eocene of Utah. This insect exhibits fine detail - under magnification you can easily make out the parts. The Moth has great color and contrast and is nicely presented on the natural plate of shale. This is a very good example of a highly uncommon Moth from the Green River Formation.
