This is an excellent fossil fish. It is a large Knightia humilis from the Eocene of Wyoming. This fossil fish is extremely well preserved and exhibits great detail. The eye socket is easily seen, and the fins are beautifully displayed. The bone structure is clearly defined, and even the large gill covers are quite evident. The dark brown fish contrasts wonderfully with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very fine example of Knightia humilis from the Green River Formation.
