Here is an excellent specimen of a rare fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is Amphiplaga bracyptera from the Green River Formation. Only a handful of these fish are found each year. This specimen exhibits superb detail. The bone structure is beautifully displayed and the fins are clearly defined and easily seen. The fish has great orangish-brown color and contrasts extremely well with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is almost perfectly centered on the oval plate of matrix. This is a striking example of this highly uncommon fossil fish.
