Here is a nice specimen of an unusual fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is Amphiplaga bracyptera from the Green River Formation. Only a handful of these fish are found each year. This specimen exhibits fine detail. The eye socket is easily seen, the bone structure is clearly defined, and the fins are nicely displayed. The brown fish contrasts wonderfully with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is well centered on the oval plate of shale. This is a very good specimen of this highly uncommon fossil fish.
