Here is a gorgeous ''round'' of petrified wood. This is Araucaria sp. from the Triassic of Madagascar. Araucaria is closely related to the modern-day monkey-puzzle tree. This is a complete cross-section of the trunk or large limb of this fossil tree. The ''bark'' on the circumference of the slab is clearly defined. This thick slab has been highly polished to reveal the fine detail and wonderful coloration of the fossil wood. And the colors of the silicified wood are outstanding! The vibrant red coloration is highly unusual. The completeness of the slice along with the striking, natural coloration make this a highly collectible specimen of petrified wood.
