Here is a very detailed specimen of Diplomystus dentatus from the Eocene of Wyoming. This large specimen exhibits great bone structure. The eye socket is very distinct and the fins are easily seen. The dark brown fish contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. It is well presented on the semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is a fine example of a large fossil herring from the Green River Formation.
