Here is an extremely large Moroccan crinoid. This is Scyphocrinites sp. from the Silurian. This type of camerate crinoid has a large cup composed of many, many stellate plates and long, multi-branching uniserial arms. These features are nicely defined on this specimen. A lengthy portion of the stem is still attached to the ancient sea lily. The grayish color of the crinoid contrasts well with the reddish-brown matrix. It is wonderfully presented on the large plate of limestone that is loaded with other crinoid fragments. This is a very good example of this highly ornamented crinoid from the Silurian.
