Here is an extremely well preserved specimen of Eohiodon falcatus from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is a very rare predatory fish - only a few of these are found each year. This fossil "mooneye" exhibits great detail - the bone structure is wonderful. The eye socket is easily seen and the fins are well defined. The dark brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is well positioned on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very fine example of this scarce fish from the Green River Formation.
