Here is a nice specimen of an unusual fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is Amphiplaga bracyptera from the Green River Formation. Only a handful of these fish are found each year. This specimen exhibits fine detail. The eye socket is easily seen. The bone structure is superb and the fins are nicely displayed. Even the scale pattern of the fish is evident. The fish has good orangish-brown color and contrasts extremely well with the light-colored shale. The fossil is centered on the oval plate of matrix. This is a very good specimen of this rare fish.
