Here is a very pretty specimen of a rare fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is Amphiplaga bracyptera from the Green River Formation. Only a handful of these fish are found each year. This specimen exhibits wonderful detail. The bone structure is superb. The fins are complete and the open mouth is nicely displayed. The scale pattern of the fish is quite noticeable and the eye socket is easily seen. The fish has great orangish-brown color and contrasts extremely well with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of matrix. This is a very displayable specimen of this rare fish.
