Here is an excellent specimen of a rare fossil fish from the Green River Shale. This is Amphiplaga bracyptera from the Eocene of Wyoming. Only a handful of these fish are found each year. This specimen exhibits excellent detail. The bone structure is superb. The fins are complete and the open mouth is nicely displayed. The scale pattern of the fish is quite noticeable. The fish has great orangish-brown color and contrasts extremely well with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is centered on the rectangular plate of matrix. This is a wonderful specimen of this rare fish.
