This is a beautiful specimen. It is a Populus wilmattae, a poplar, from the Green River Formation of Utah. This fossil exhibits wonderful detail. The venation of the leaf is excellent. Even the tertiary venation is quite evident. The crenate margins are easily seen. The long, attenuate tip is present. The leaf retains a long petiole. The leaf has great color and contrast. It is almost perfectly centered on the squared matrix plate. This is a gorgeous example of a fossil poplar leaf.
