Here is a very interesting cephalopod. This is a specimen of a belemnite, Hibolites hastatus, from the Jurassic of Germany. A belemnite was a squid-like animal, closely related to a modern day cuttlefish. The plate of limestone has been highly polished and the cross-section of the belemnite is beautifully displayed. The fossil has great color and contrast and is well centered on the limestone ''tile''. This is a fine specimen of a belemnite from the limestone of Germany.
