This is an excellent fossil feather from the Eocene of Utah. Bird remains are quite rare in the fossil record - even solitary feathers are very uncommon. This feather exhibits wonderful detail. The shaft of the feather is easily seen and the individual barbs are clearly defined. The dark brown fossil contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. It is well positioned on the plate of shale. This is a wonderful example of a fossil feather from the Green River Formation.
