Here is a wonderful specimen of Acer lesquereuxi from the Green River Shale. This fantastic maple leaf is from the Eocene of Utah. Very few maple leaves are found at this site - and a maple leaf preserved this well is extremely rare. The leaf has all five lobes beautifully defined and the toothed margins are easily seen. The strong venation of the leaf is quite evident and the long petiole is still attached. This excellent leaf is totally natural - there is no restoration or "touch-up" of any kind. The fossil has great color and contrast and is nicely positioned on the rectangular plate of matrix. This is a very displayable fossil maple leaf from the Green River Formation.
