This is a very beautiful specimen of a fossil leaf from the Green River Shale. This is a large specimen of Persea coriacea, a member of the Laurel family. This lanceolate shaped leaf exhibits great detail. The venation of the leaf is very evident. The entire margins are complete all the way to the very tip of the leaf. A nice petiole is attached. The leaf is almost perfectly centered on a semi-rectangular plate of shale. The fossil has good color and great contrast with the khaki-colored matrix. This is a super specimen of a Persea leaf from the Eocene of Utah.
