This is a beautiful specimen of Cardiospermum coloradensis, balloon vine, from the Green River Formation. The peculiarly lobed leaf is well centered on a rectangular block of matrix. The leaf is very dark and contrasts quite nicely with the tan matrix. The venation of the leaf is very evident. Living members of Cardiospermum are herbaceous or woody vines. The fossil species appear to represent shrubs rather than vines. This is a gorgeous specimen of balloon vine from the Eocene of Utah.
