This is a nice specimen of Acer lesquereuxi, a maple, from the Eocene of Utah. Maple leaves are very rare from this site. The leaf has good brown color and contrasts nicely with the tan matrix. The fossil is well centered on the natural matrix plate. The venation of the leaf is quite evident. An extremely long petiole is attached to the leaf. There is also a partial specimen of Populus cinnamomoides on the same plate. This is a fine example of a hard-to-find maple leaf from the Green River Formation.
