This is a very nice specimen of Lygodium kaulfussii, a Climbing Fern, from the Eocene of Utah. The living representatives of Lygodium are true climbers. This distinctive leaf has four long lobes with rounded tips. The palmate venation of the leaf is clearly defined and beautifully displayed. The fossil has wonderful dark brown color and contrasts nicely with the khaki-colored matrix. The leaf is well centered on the squared plate of shale. This is an excellent leaf of this unusual plant from the Green River Formation.
