This is a special crinoid fossil. It is a Bactocrinus jaeckeli from Bundenbach, Germany. This crinoid is from the famous "roofing slate" quarries of Germany. Occasionally, one of these shingles is hiding a treasure such as this. This specimen is a complete crinoid that has rooted itself to a piece of debris (brachiopod?). This crinoid is complete and displays beautifully in all its glory. It is very rare to find a fossil this detailed in its living position.
