Here is a wonderful specimen of Lygodium kaulfussii, a climbing fern, from the Eocene of Utah. The living representatives of Lygodium are true climbers. This is a very large, uniquely lobed fossil leaf. All four lobes are complete which is quite uncommon. The palmate venation of the leaf is quite distinct and beautifully displayed. The fossil has outstanding dark brown color and contrasts nicely with the khaki-colored matrix. The leaf is well centered on the squared plate of shale. This is one of the finest specimens of this unusual plant that we have seen.
